13 November 1872 — Madrid
Wednesday. 13th November [1872]. I intended to have gone to breakfast with the Dss de la Torre but she went me word to go Saty instead. Henry could not go out on account of his cold so I fetched Emilia de Riano & we took a drive shopping &c & I took her to call on Mme Dragonetti. I brought her to see Henry & then took to the Barrio Salamanca where she wanted to pay a visit & left her– As I was shopping at Prevôts waiting for a parcel on my way home the Dss de la Torre came by & got into the carriage with me & we had a talk. I settled to go to her Saty & we parted. On the way home I passed the Ayltons & picked up Louise & brought her home to tea. The other 2 came & fetched her & paid us a visit. Mr Goschen also called. He leaves Madrid on Friday. Mr Ffrench is ill with bronchitis. The King is also laid up with rheumatism in the joints & cannot go out. Heard also a French attaché La Bruntierè is laid up with rheumatic fever–
