12 January 1873 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 12th January [1873]. We went to the Quartett concert & then called on the Sickles. Mr Underdown & Gay & Messrs Sey & Hag: dined with us & Col Fitch who amused us with duelling stories—especially one between an Irishman & a German wh Fitch arranged & got the apology written in French he said it began “Je suis pardon” but the Irishman objecting to it as too humble it was changed to “Suito mucho”. | |
