11 January 1873 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 11th [January 1873]. Lord Henry & Mr Tarquehar (now recovered from his cold) came to luncheon & promised to return at 5. The Vernouillets called & brought their child. It got late & I began to think he was not coming– Mme Ettling came & Grau & all of a sudden in rushed Ld Henry with his hand full of gold wh he poured into my lap. I made him up his parcel of mantillas & he rushed to the train & Mr Underdown to see him off. | |
