1 February 1873 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 1st February [1873]. Had rather a headache & got up late & did not do much all day. Visits from Mme de Canitz & afterwards the Bernars who say things look serious as the Ministers are so furious still with the King. We dined at a large dinner at the Fernan Nuñez—meeting the La Romanas, Canitz, Marquis Dragonetti, Rios Rosas, Silvela &c. Genl Concha (El Marquis del Deuco) took me into dinner. It appears that when the Cortès heard of the King’s proceedings abt the birth they considered themselves insulted & wanted to proclaim the Congress a National Convention! After dinner a few people came & there was dancing but we left early. | |
