22 April 1873 — Madrid
Tuesday. 22nd [April 1873]. I woke with a headache & did not get up till 11 & then laid on the sofa. Esquivel gave me a lesson. It was a wet muggy day. Mr Napier came to have tea with me. Henry went out walking & brought the Riaños with him. They staid some time talking & then went home. Mr Napier dined & then I taught him to play “Mandola” till 10 when I went to bed & Henry to Bouillés. He says things look bad for tomorrow & Rancès advises me not to go out. No post in again.
