29 April 1873 — Madrid
Tuesday. 29th [April 1873]. Better this morning. I wrote a lot of letters of introduction to people in London for Mirecki & drew with Esquivel who gave me a lesson at 2. At 4 I went out driving & on my way to call on Mme Ettling I met Mme de Canitz driving in an open carriage & she begged me to go with her I said I would join her at the Russian Legation. While waiting at the door for her I saw Nicholas who came & talked to me telling me that it was reported that I had a houseful—Albareda, Serrano &c– We drove to the Prado where we got out & walked & then took a turn in the Fuente. I dropped Aurelie at home & went on home in her carriage. I had a headache & almost directly after dinner went to bed. Henry went to Beck’s concert & also to Bouillés reception.
