4 June 1873 — Madrid
Wednesday. 4th [June 1873]. I copied for Henry in the morning, after lunch Henry & I took a walk together going round several of the prenderias & I bought an old pierre de strasz necklace. News from England of the sad death of Prince Alice’s 2nd son of 3 years old having fallen out of the window of the Palace at Darmstadt. We went to Bice’s circus & took Emilia Riaño & her boy—saw 3 small children work on the triple trapese—one little fellow abt 4 years old performed with the greatest glee. It was quite cold & there was some rain.
