13 July 1873 — Roehampton
Sunday. 13th [July 1873]. It was a very wet day so we had a cab to go to Roeton church– The clergyman preached abt the discoverer of Nineveh &c & it was hard to keep ones countenance. It was pelting when the service was over & our fly had not arrived so we rushed over into the Levens house to wait there– I got rather a cold & my face swelled. We cd not stir out for the rain, the wind brought down an immense elm bough in the garden.
