4 August 1873 — Freshwater
Monday. 4th [August 1873]. We left Freshwater at 8 in morng & had a most tiresome journey– There were crowds travelling & we found it was a Bank holiday. We parted with M & Rd at Basingstoke & they went on home. We missed our train to M                & had to wait 1½ hour for another train. The Burrs omnibus was there & took us to Aldermaston. I took Maria’s maid Cox with me—as Hill had gone home from Canford for a week. We had some tea at Aldern & then went out to the lake to fish till dinner.
