18 August 1873 — Keir | |
Monday. 18th [August 1873]. Wet morning but it cleared in the afternoon & Lady Anne & Sir Wm took Mr Sheridan, me & Henry for a drive to see the old church at Dunblane half of wh is in ruins—the rest is built up & now undergoing repair. We then went on to Castle Doune which is a splendid old ruin but it was too wet for me to care to get out so Hy & Mr Sheridan got out & the rest of us went on to see a distant view of Castle Doune & then went back– We had some singing in the evening– Marlay (nicknamed by the Stirling children Peter Parley) would sing & distressed me exceedingly. I had to play for him & he sang so badly & performed such antics while doing so that I had the greatest difficulty to keep my countenance– | |
