30 August 1873 — Perth
Saturday. 30th August [1873]. Found that the Bristols were at the hotel & go on to Achnashellach today. We left abt 9 & stopt the train at Tallington arriving there abt 7½ o’cl: Found there was no carriage to meet us & while debating what to do saw a spring cart go by. It was the Tallington baker so we asked him to take us over wh he agreed to do. We left the baggage at the station & Henry, Hill & I got in– Half way we passed the omnibus & hailed it but it was too dark for Wade to see us & Wade being too deaf to hear what we said he went on only shouting that he must meet a lady & gentleman at the station & was in a hurry– So we went on in our cart. They were at dinner when we arrived a we went in to dinner in our travelling costumes– Kitty was there & the eldest children. I had not seen her for 2 years—she looks as blooming & handsome as ever. She is just home from Norway– There was Mr Marsh, John Welby & his bride, Mrs Scott (tutor), Mr Gosen (Agent), Dr Watson, & Milord. Uncle Bertie is still in Norway– Lord Kesteven was dining there.
