17 November 1873 — Madrid | |
Monday. 17th November [1873]. Copied most of the morning for Henry who is very busy. Practised for Inzenga– The Derings lunched with us. Frau Fliedner called on me—at 3 I & Mrs Dering went out together & I took her to the fan shop to order a fan– Played backgammon before dinner & the organ after. A good many people came in the eveng viz. Bauers, Sickles – Figueras, Canitz, Llorente, Nicholas &c & we did not get to bed till one oclock. There were great confabs with Sickles & the other diplomats—I suppose over this Virginius affair—& there were two whist tables– | |
