18 November 1873 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 18th [November 1873]. Finished copying despatches for Henry– Began 2nd flap of screen. Lesson of Inzenga at 1. Castelar came to see Henry who is very busy. I did not go out not yet being well. Henry went out to see Koudriaffsky. Isabel Madrazo came to see me & Maffei to see Henry to tell him that Sickles had sent for him to say that it was likely he wd be recalled by his Govt & have to leave Madrid tomorrow & wd Maffei undertake the A. Interests. M has telegraphed to his Govt to ask. We played backgammon & I the organ in the eveng. The eveng papers state that there have been several corridas today & crowds in the Plaza Mayor on account of an attempt to disarm the red volunteers– | |
