28 November 1873 — Madrid | |
Friday. 28th [November 1873]. I had a tidying up in the morning. Brehm came. Tells me that Ada Hamilton has St Vitus’ dance & Louise Aylton came to knit. After lunch I practised. At 3½ I went out first to the Dss to give her 2 fans that Giovanni had got her. She told me how bored she was with the La Rochefoucaulds & some more things she had said abt my dress. I paid Mrs Hamilton a visit—went to Gardeners & home. Found Henry still out. Vernouillet called & then Maffei to talk over the “Virginius” affair wh is settled & the Sickles to not leave. After dinner we played backgammon & the organ– | |
