30 November 1873 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 30th [November 1873]. Went to the service in Calle Leganitos with Miss Sickles. Mme Tierny Petit (English teacher here) came to see me also Mr Hunt & his boy, copied letter to Ld G for Henry to send by French Messenger– Took a walk after luncheon with Henry, we went to bid adieu to the Comyns who leave on Wednesday for London. We went round to the Sickles, they were calmer & had unpacked a few things as the Virginius affair is settled. Played backgammon & read aloud to Henry. Huelin, Edmond Yates (manager of N.Y. Herald in London), Nicholas, Maffei, Hunt &c dined. | |
