26 December 1873 — Madrid | |
Friday. 26th December [1873]. While dressing Henry came in to tell me that news had come that Mrs Hunt’s baby had died at 3 this morning. After breakfast Mr Hamilton came & gave me a long acct of it & how the child had died in his wife’s arms– Mrs Hunt sent for a pair of baby shoes I had made the bury the child in– Mr Haggart came to say Mrs Hunt seemed pretty well– I went out driving to see Emilia & found her in—then to Mrs Hamilton who was crying & very much done up, then to pick up Henry in Fuente & home. Mme de Canitz came & we had some tea– Backgammon. After dinner read aloud & played organ– Bed with a cold– | |
