4 January 1874 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 4th January [1874]. The troops were withdrawn from the streets & all is quiet– Mr Wm Harbord the Messenger arrived with bag from England. I had 5 letters thro’ him & afterwards 4 more by post. I copied a long despatch for Henry to send by the French messenger who starts tonight. I did not go out [at] all—but wrote & copied until nearly 5 & we neither of us could go to the Concert. The Saavedras, Genl Rojas, Ittersum, Mr Austin &c dined with us– | |
