8 May 1874 — Madrid | |
Friday. 8th [May 1874]. Never moved from my painting from 10 till 5 in the evening except for luncheon & then I went out & fetched Emilia. We met Henry in the Fuente & got out & walked but it was very cold & half raining– My cold is very uncomfortable. Coming home I went to see Mrs MacDonell & found Maffei there who brought me home & we asked him to dine with us which he did & afterwards we went to the Bauers– There was Valera—Bedmar—Genl San Roman & others there & a great political discussion all making speeches as if at the Cortès. | |
