3 July 1874 — Langham House, Portland Place
Friday. 3rd [July 1874]. Ivor fetched me & took me out walking in search of a present as he had promised me a ruby ring. We went to several jewelers but found all so frightfully dear that we gave it up. I was just going home in a cab when Ivors carriage passed us in Bond St and the M. in it so we stopt her & I went with her. Susan Hambro, Emilia Riaño & Elisabeth de Martino came to luncheon. De Martino is now secretary in London in Maffei’s place. The M. drove me to Mrs Burrs where I had arranged to meet Henry with Mrs Leslie’s drawings & where there was an Art Nettle drum. Henry’s brother Fred came there having just returned from India & there were a good many old friends there. We dined at Hamilton House where there was a smart party– I was taken down by Genl Peel & sat between him & Georgy Forbes. Met the Tankervilles, Genl & Lady A Peel, Forbes, Lds Ilchester & Roden, Powerscourts Lady Camden &c.
