18 July 1874 — Munich
Saturday. 18th [July 1874]. We had just finished breakfast & had returned from a stroll to buy gloves when at the door of our hotel “the 4 seasons” we met Mrs & Blanche Clark. They were starting by the same train as we for Innsbruck. We went 1st class & they 2nd but part of the time Mrs Clark joined us. At Kufstein Mrs C. met her son & others of her party. Blanche did all the business took the tickets &c & refreshed her self with a large glass of German beer. We got to Innsbruck about 6 in the evening & we went to Hotel d’Europa—the others went to “Austrian.” We took a walk before dinner—the town is very picturesque & some houses are curious– We went to see Maximilian’s monument in the Franciscan church. After dinner we had a visit from Mrs Clark & her son who did not make himself very agreeable, we took coffee in the garden.
