19 July 1874 — Innsbruck
Sunday. 19th [July 1874]. Left Innsbruck abt ½ past 10 & went thro’ very pretty scenery over the Brenner pass to Botzen & on to Trent which we reached abt 5. Went to Hotel de la Ville. Took a walk & went to see the Castle. A soldier told us we must have a permission & took us to get one. We met the officer who gave us one—& were shown over the whole castle & which is now used as a barrack by a very civil Austrian officer. There are some lovely frescoes by Romanino & some very handsome ceilings. In the town are some handsome palaces built in the Florentine style. The cathedral is very interesting & picturesque.
