12 August 1874 — Venice
Wednesday. 12th [August 1874]. Went to the Lido & did not see Morelli till 1. He & Henry went to see some pictures on sale & then returned for me & we went to Salviati’s & on to the Museo Correr & saw the pictures under Morelli’s guidance. Sr Barozzi the keeper came with us & had a book of fan mounts brought out to show me—there was one very fine printed one. He gave me a sheet of cartes de visites of last century– They are engraved forms with a blank to write the name. From the Correr we went to tea with Browns & there met Mme Hurtado & her daughter Idita & Mr Munro & we had a grand tea set out in his dining room. I went in afterwards to paint but got there late & had little time. After dinner we went to Piazza.
