19 August 1874 — Venice | |
Wednesday. 19th [August 1874]. Went to the Lido & Mr Rate met us there & came back with us. The day was too dull for painting so we went over the Ducal Palace & saw the Grimani Breviary which Morelli has discovered to be by Mabuse & is signed by his name—Gossart. We went to look at Titian’s St Christopher the only fresco remaining in Venice—the sea air having destroyed all others. In the afternoon I called on Mme Hurtado. | |
