2 January 1875 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 2nd January [1875]. Before breakfast the Dss de la Torre went away with the children to the new hotel she has taken whilst her own is being finished & we sent her in our carriage. Henry wrote to the Duke de Sesto to ask if it were safe for her to do so but got no answer– Messenger arrived from England– In the afternoon I drove out & went to take some letters to the Dss but did not see her found the house in the greatest confusion. Maffei came to call on us & we begged him to stop & dine which he did going away early in the evening. The Dss sent the Governess & 2 servants to sleep here. | |
