12 January 1875 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 12th [January 1875]. Painted all the morning in expectation of Esq giving me a lesson but he did not come. Louise Aylton came to try on her fichu & then we went out at 3.30 & I dropped her at home. Went to see Emilia Riaño & sat sometime with her. We gossipped abt the King &c– The Gazette of today has a telegram from Valencia saying the King went into a famous chapel & offered the Capt. Genls baton to the Virgin saying he made his Capt. Genl of Valencia! We are going back to the old state of things. I then went & found Henry in the Prado & brought him home. Maffei called to say that there was going to be another meeting at the Ambr’s as those invited to the Gobernacion to see the King pass were expected to be in uniform & this was to be discussed tomorrow. At yesterday’s meeting it was decided we were all to illuminate. | |
