15 January 1875 — Madrid | |
Friday. 15th January [1875]. Wrote & painted. Went to see Clarita in the afternoon & then to see the Dss de la Torre for a few minutes & then to Retiro to pick up Henry & we took a turn in the drive & saw the King riding. There was a great crowd of carriages. The K was in plain clothes & rode bareheaded. Henry told me that he had recd 2 tickets for the gala opera tonight but as it said that he must go in uniform we cd not go. We went to see of we cd find Chaudordy but he was out. Just before dinner came Maffei to see what Henry was going to do abt the Opera. We made him stop & dine & he left directly after to go & dress to go to the Opera having decided to go. | |
