31 January 1875 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 31st [January 1875]. Copied for Henry. At 3.30 went out driving to Retiro where we go out & walked. There was a tremendous crowd of carriages & only being allowed to go in single file we thought we shd never get home—it was cold before we got in. Mr Montesino called but did not seem happy abt the state of things. There is no news yet from the N. Mmes Koudriaffsky & Greindl called & took tea with us—also B. Aylton. The Broutelles, Phipps, Fitch, Cr Nava de Tajo, Gay: Riuz Gomez, Maffei, Gosling dined with us. | |
