6 February 1875 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 6th [February 1875]. I went to see the Dss de la Torre in the afternoon. Hill was ill & could not dress me for dinner but Mrs Beale helped me. We went to dine at Chaudordy’s & just as I was dressed & going to start they told me Hill had fainted so I had to go up & bring her round. All the heads of Missions dined at Chaudordy & the Canelaux & Broutelles the Prince of Monaco was there & took me in to dinner. He is in the Spanish navy & came here with the King. He is not amusing joking with rather a bad bloated complexion thin state. | |
