8 March 1875 — Madrid | |
Monday. 8th [March 1875]. Copied for Henry for sending by messenger who left in the eveng. At 3.30 went out driving in open carriage. Henry started with me but went for a walk when I fetched Emilia. Went to try & get Henry a cigarette case but cd find nothing nice—also went to buy some canaries but found they are 5 douros a piece. Met Dss de la Torre in the Puerta del Sol & she said she was going to see Henry– After shopping we took one turn in the Retiro. The roads were very muddy. In the evening a few people came & besides the corps dip there were the Bernars, Alvareda & the Marques de Selva Alegre. There was a great discussion over an invitation Castro the Min for F. A. is going to send me to go to see Css Cirginti on Wedy. The Gentlemen having to go in uniform. Henry & Hatzfeldt objected & said it was quite unusual. It appears that Selva Alegre was very insolent to Henry when he asked him to arrange to let the Ministers carriage drive into the court yard of the Palace & said “Vous aniz fait cela aves votre roi populaire (Amadeo) mais nous l’avons chassé.” Alvareda was also in very low spirits at some disagreeable thing Selva Alegre had said to him abt K. Amadeo. | |
