12 March 1875 — Madrid
Friday. 12th [March 1875]. I was writing in the morning when Henry came in & said “I have brought you a lady.” which turned out to be Jessie Bruce with her uncle Sir Cecil Beadon—they said they had come from Santiago in Galicia & had been travelling day & night since Monday to get here & had come thro’ Portugal. In the afternoon I went to the Gallery to fetch Miss Bruce. I took Sir C. & Lady B to the hotel & then Miss B & I went to call in Emilia. We found her in & took her out with us—dropping Miss B at the Fonda de los Princepes. Mr Gay. came to fetch Emilia later– M. & Mme Bauer dined with us also Falco Esquivel, Albareda & the Ambassador. We had a very pleasant little party & Bauers stayed till late so that we did not go to Fernan Nuñez where the “banderias” band played.
