17 April 1875 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 17th [April 1875]. There was a good deal of excitement in the house on acct of the Porter’s son’s marriage. Hill went to the church to see the ceremony & I cd not get up till she returned & it was nearly 10. I got up with a headache & there was a great oppression in the air. I painted & finished the vase. Canovas del Castillo called on Henry. Messrs Kennedy, Gosling & Hunt came for some tea. The Messenger arrived from England. Emilia dined with us & stayed till 10½. D. Federico Madrazo & his bride (Bsa de Andilla that was) called on us. She was grandly got up regardless of expense. | |
