7 June 1875 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Monday. 7th [June 1875]. We went to the Lido & took our 1st bathe. We went in our gondola starting at 7 & got back by 9.30. A charwoman we engaged yesterday & who was recommended by Caetano came to work but in abt 2 hours declared she did not like the place & made off. We were astonished & suspect some intrigue of the gondoliers. | |
