2 July 1875 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 2nd [July 1875]. We went by 7 o’cl steamer to the Favorita & took Hill. We found it very quiet & pleasant—very few people go there. Visit from Mme del Carreto & Pss Dolgorouky– We had a violent thunderstorm abt 5 o’ck. Sir J. & Lady Drummond & daughter, Count Wimpfen & Countess Marcello dined with us. After dinner we went to the Piazza & had only just landed when a storm suddenly got up & there was a run. We met the Carreto’s & while Henry was sending the men back for the felse they carried me off to the Giardinetto saying it was a splendid place to see the storm. Morelli who had arrived to pay us a visit & came while we were dining was with me & undertook to find Henry & brought him to where we were– There we met the Pss D., the Romanas &c &c &c. At last the rain stopped & we went to the Piazza & round to the Banieo de S. Marco where Mme Marcello found the gondola & sent us home in it.
