8 July 1875 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Thursday. 8th [July 1875]. Went to Favorita to bathe. While sitting at breakfast Henry said I really must write to Sir J. Hudson to ask him to come. Both Morelli & I said “Oh he wont come now.” A minute after Giovanni brought in a card saying this gentleman wants to see you—it was Sir James. I should have hardly known him again he has grown a long white beard. We sat talking all the morng & at 3 they went out while I went to sketch. In the eveng we went to Piazza & met Smallwood there who was well bullied by Sir James. | |
