23 July 1875 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 23rd [July 1875]. Went to Lido where Hill & I bathed. There was a great crowd of people & the men were very tiresome & came over among the women. The weather became rainy & there was no painting. Altho it was showery we managed to go out & called on Pss Dolgorouky—went to Salviati—to the Piazza & to Vianelli’s to see if we cd get a photo of one from wh to have my portrait done in mosaic for Sir M. Montefiore. Found he had none so arranged a sitting for tomorrow. In the eveng it got a little finer so we went & took a turn in the Piazza with the Malcolms but could not set down.
