16 August 1875 — Aldermaston Court, Aldermaston, Berkshire
Monday. 16th [August 1875]. The Poynters left. I went out into the park with Miss Thompson & we sketched till lunch when we were fetched home by the pony carriage & we went out again after lunch. Mrs R & Hy fetched me home & we left Miss Thompson with Julian. I like Miss T. very much. She is tall & almost handsome—very quiet & very deaf. She is very modest abt her painting & is not at all puffed up by it. She told me she must work hard this winter as she had some old orders to finish for wh (as they were ordered before her name was so known) she wd get very little. The Joyces came over & dined & slept. Dr Hooker & Mr Fergusson came.
