1 September 1875 — Blackheath
Wednesday. 1st September [1875]. We left Grannie & went to Tunbridge to stay with the Thompson Hankeys. Mr T. H. went down with us. We got out at Tunbridge station & had to drive 5 miles to Shipton Grange wh is a small red brick house on the extreme edge of a common—stands high & must be cold & bleak in winter. The luggage took a good time coming & we had to dress for dinner in great haste. There was a Miss Hervey (daughter of the Dean) & Mr Jekyll staying here.
