Monday. 15th [November 1875]. The Messenger (Byng Hall) arrived from England. Koudriaffsky called but did not stay. Painted. Went out at 3 & fetched Emilia to go with me. Enquired of Ponton who goes on very badly. Went to the school of Sta Isabel kept by French Sisters to take some work to be done. Some sheets to be made. They embroider 2 letters very large & ornamented on a sheet for 40rs. All embroidery here is very cheap & good. Went to see Mariquilla Saavedra & found her in. Came home by 5. Recd in the eveng a good many men came & only 2 ladies Mrs Hunt & Mme d’Antas. Great talk of peace with the Carlists. It appears D. Carlos ADC had gone to speak with the Commander in Chief–
