5 December 1875 — Madrid
Sunday. 5th [December 1875]. At a little before 2 Henry & I started for a walk– In passing the Conservatorio we saw a large quantity of police & on enquiry found that the 1st quartett concert was taking place & that the police were placed in honor of the Pss of the Asturias who was there—so we turned in there & sat beside Clarita & Mrs Hunt. The Concert was excellent. Mirecki plays the violincello, Castellanos having discreetly retired & the quartetts were very well played. We got away a little after 4 & went to pay M & Mme Comyn a visit. He was not visible being ill & Henry only saw him. Mr & Mrs Scarlett, Genl Milans del Bosch, Monteverde, Cushing, Huelin dined with us. The cold of the climate & the heat of the concert had made my head ache a little.
