10 January 1876 — Madrid
Monday. 10th [January 1876]. The snow was about a foot deep when we got up there were no carriages about & I only saw 2 all day long. There was no going out & abt 3 it began to snow afresh & was snowing hard till abt 6 oclock. Read & worked all day. Nobody came in the eveng except Mr Sartoris. We had some hot Punch to warm ourselves & went to bed early. No post in.
