9 January 1876 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 9th January [1876]. Found snow on the ground this morng. I had a headache & did not get up. Got on the sofa in afternoon– Cold intense. Henry went out to see the King go to Atocha for a Te Deum in remembrance of his having set foot in Spain this day year– He says nobody took off their hats to HM & there were hardly any spectators in the streets wh were lined with troops. The Minister for F. Affairs—Bernars, Walshams, Phipps, Genl Concha, Ct Ludolf, Sartoris, Ct Canelaux dined with us. It was snowing hard & they said locomotion was difficult. | |
