10 August 1876 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Thursday. 10th [August 1876]. Painted all the morning. Sat out. Went to Luff’s with Mr Clark & Henry. We looked at his pictures & admired the curious old one he had picked up last year at Blandford for 7/6 including a fireback & a bit of china. It turned out to be an original portrait of Cromwell Minister to Henry VIII & Henry says it is worth quite £50 & is of the school of Holbein. Arthur arrived this eveng. People to dinner Miss Linthorne 2 Mr Dugdale—one a clergyman & Revd & Mrs Williams. A little music in eveng. Cricket match against Parkstone who won. | |
