19 August 1876 — Eastnor Castle, nr. Ledbury, Herefordshire
Saturday. 19th [August 1876]. We left Eastnor at 9.30 to drive to Ledbury station. The weather showed signs of breaking up & we came in for 2 thunderstorms before we reached Redding. Our train was so late that we missed the 3.15 for Aldermaston & had to wait for 1½ hours for the next. I got into a carriage wh was over crowded & had to change. I found myself with Mr & Mrs Poynter, Mr & Mrs Ball, & Dr Hooker. Henry had to find place elsewhere with Mr Burton & Mr Fergusson who were all going to Aldermaston. We had tea & took a walk on the terrace– The Arthur Russells came later.
