2 September 1876 — Blackheath
Saturday. 2nd [September 1876]. It rained nearly all day & when about 4 it cleared Henry & I went out for a walk, we went on the heath & watched men playing golf & also a cricket match that was going on. We went on to the village & looked at the shops– Coming back over the heath we stopped again to see the cricket. Close to us there were a lady & gentleman & when they turned round we found that they were Mr & Mrs John Bell [illegible word] English banker at Madrid. They had left some months ago to settle at Corunna & they told us they were now settled at Blackheath. When we got home we found Miss Berkeley waiting to see us & had a chat.
