20 October 1876 — Madrid
Friday. 20th [October 1876]. Rather better today & went out to see Mariquilla Saavedra whom I heard had been ill. I found she had had bronchitis & still was kept in & looked pale & thin– We went on to leave a note at Mme Bertran de Lis. She came to see me yesterday to tell me that Miss Green was going to be married & to ask me to get her a parcel by messenger. I came home early & at tea time we had a visit from the Dss de la Torre & her boy Parco– It was the first time we had met since what happened when the P. of Wales was here & we were not very cordial. Happily Valera came in wh helped a little & we gave her tea. Css Rascon & her daughter called. In the evening Henry went to the Presidencia to Canovas’ first reception.
