4 December 1876 — Madrid | |
Monday. 4th December [1876]. The messenger arrived from England. I recd a blue enamel brooch with a diamond star from Merthyr. Mr Hunt arrived from Paris from his leave. Henry went to M. Aylton’s funeral– Pouring wet day. The news of the day is the absconding of a woman called Doña Baldomera who gave 30 p/c a month on peoples money & who has been taking in the Madrid world for nearly 2 years. Our cook lost 2600rs by her departure. Messrs Hunt & Ken: came up to tea. Recd in eveng Mme Belle, the Bauers, the Quesadas, Mr & Mrs Jameson & a few men came—the weather prevented others coming. Every one talked of Doña Baldomera– A very rough night. | |
