6 December 1876 — Madrid
Wednesday. 6th December [1876]. Made cigarettes all day till 3.30– Horrid weather. At 4 Mme Montebello called– She told me that M. Pirel had been found dead this morning having had a fit after a hot bath. Emilia Riaño came—brought her work & stayed till six. Visit fm Dss of Fernan Nunez & her daughter– Hatzfeldt came to tea & went to talk business with Henry who went out this afternoon to see Canovas & C. Collantes. After dinner I finished making the cigarettes & made 2000 out of ten lb of tobacco. Henry returned to his room to write.
