18 December 1876 — Madrid | |
Monday. 18th [December 1876]. Painted had visit from Sr Gonzalvo the painter– Had row with Giovanni about giving out the cloth for the servants liveries– He refuses to ask Hill for it—& I had to fetch it Hill was rude to me abt it & between them I was upset & cried like a fool the rest of the day. I put up the flowers to the dinner table to night & wrote out the menues & at 3 went out. Went to see Emilia & found Miss Forster planté there—& got Emilia to turn her out & come out with me. We left cards & I came home at 5. We gave a farewell dinner to the d’Antas– He has been named to London & succeeds the D. of Saldanha– Besides the d’Antas we had the Bauers, the Ulloas, Sr Canovas del Castillo, Hatzfeldt, Ludolf & Greppi. Received as usual– Had the Riaños, Visc. & Vss Soveral & daughter, Miss Forster, the Rascons, Hunts &c &c Great talk about the decree pub. yesterday on the municipal elections & a row is expected tomorrow in the Cortès. | |
