8 February 1877 — Madrid
Thursday. 8th [February 1877]. Emilia came at 10.30 & we went to see the Royal stables, coach house & harness room. Went in to the riding school & saw a horse been broken in. When they put the saddle on they bandaged his eyes—& before he was taken back to the stable they gave him some greens to eat. The harness room was all dismantled as the room is being painted & cleaned. Back to breakfast. Went out at 3.30 alone. Left cards & paid visits but found no one at home. Ittersum came to tea & stayed late. Hatzfeldt came to dinner. After dinner Silvela came & I left them to write as yesterday & I copied a despatch for Henry in my own room.
