5 March 1877 — Madrid | |
Monday. 5th March [1877]. Stayed in bed all day & took 7 grains of quinine in the morng as Brehm came & added a 3rd dose. I became almost deaf with it & could do nothing all day. We had a dinner party, 3 Fernan Nunez, 2 Bauers, 2 Urbasas, Canovas del Castillo, Calderon Collantes, Greppi, Hatzfeldt, Marquis de Guadalcazar, Montebello & Llorente—16 in all. In the evening there was a party & we had about 130 people & it was “muy animado.” Cold windy weather. | |
